What is a Job in Caction?

In Caction, a Job Page (often referred to as Job, Job Detail or Job Data Level) is the central place where all information about a specific piece of work is stored and managed. In some cases, it can also be named as Task, Ticket, Activity, or so on, depending on your company's needs. A Job represents a task or activity that you schedule for your team to perform or complete, such as a site visit, maintenance check, repair job, inspection, or any operational task that needs tracking and accountability.

Why is the Job Data Level Important?

The Job Page is central to how Caction helps you run your operations smoothly, because it:

Purpose Description
Tracks and Organises Work

Each job is a record of something that needs attention. Whether routine maintenance, customer service, or reactive repairs, it helps teams stay structured and accountable.

Supports Real-Time Updates As team members update job progress (e.g., status changes, photos, notes), managers and stakeholders can see the latest information instantly. There will be no more scattered messages or lost paper forms.
Enables Workflow Coordination Jobs can be visualised in schedules, assigned to departments or people, and connected to related tasks, helping teams stay aligned and efficient.
Connects With Other Features

The job page links to DashboardsReportsSchedules, Assets, and Customer History, giving context and performance insights across the entire system.

What Information is Stored in the Job Page?

Each job record includes key details like:

  • Customer and Project the job is linked to

  • Start / End date and time

  • Assigned team member(s)

  • Status (e.g., Not Started, In Progress, Needing Attention, Completed, Cancelled)

  • Description or instructions about the work

  • Attachments such as photos, forms, or files

  • Reminders and timelines for execution

This makes the Job Page a single source of truth for that piece of work, ensuring your team knows what needs to be done, when, and by whom.

How Users Interact With the Job Page

Users typically find and use the Job Page through:

Job Schedule / Calendar This is where upcoming and planned jobs are shown, often in a calendar or list view. Users can click into each job to open its detail page.
Job Dashboard A filtered, sortable list of all jobs across categories, statuses, and timeframes. From here, users can open, edit, and manage jobs.
Direct Job Creation Jobs can be created directly from the schedule or dashboard, then viewed and managed in the job detail page.

Job Relationships (Main vs Sub Jobs)

In more complex scenarios like multi-visit work or follow-up tasks, Caction supports Main and Sub Jobs. A parent/child structure that links related jobs for better tracking and accountability.

For example:

  • A Main Job might be a regular maintenance visit.

  • A Sub Job could be a follow-up repair discovered during that visit.

This hierarchy ensures work is tracked cohesively and context stays connected.
